What To Read In The Bible When You Feel Alone
This post is all about what to read in the Bible when you feel alone. It is not only Bible Verses, but some Biblical Stories that will encourage you and show you the love of God.
Maybe today you are feeling lonely, or you are walking through a season where you have felt alone for a while now. It could be that you are homebound, or you feel isolated. Maybe all your friends have significant others and you are at home scrolling on social media, or you are a single mom.
Whatever your situation is, feelings of loneliness are real. From my experience, the best way to overcome the feeling of loneliness is to get in the Word of God, the Holy Bible, and pray.
Get a drink, snuggle with a blanket, and let's talk about what to read in the Bible when you feel alone.
If you have a Bible, then you might want to get it. If you do not own a Bible, you can install the YouVersion Bible App on your device. It is free plus has several translations.
My challenge to you during this season of loneliness is to come out of it stronger and better. Not only can you come out of this season stronger, but it is also a time where you can grow your faith and become closer to the Lord. When you keep your eyes on Jesus and draw near to Him, He will draw near to you.
The first defense to overcome the pangs of loneliness is to gain a better understanding of the love of Christ.
James 4:8 (NIV), “Come near to God and he will come near to you…”
You will begin to feel a love that you can not explain in words and a joy that no man can take away. You will have peace that surpasses all understanding.
Philippians 4:7 (NIV), “And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Satan's job is a thief here on earth. He wants to steal your peace, for you to feel lonely, to rob you of your days, and cause havoc in your life.
John 10:10 (NIV), “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”
John 16:33 (NIV), “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
Christ Jesus came to earth, died on the cross, and paid the price for you and me. Three days later, Jesus rose from the grave and conquered death. When He ascended to heaven, He left us with the Holy Spirit. The good news is that when you accept Jesus into your life, the Holy Spirit lives in you!
John 3:16 (NIV), “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
God's love should not be taken lightly. It is a gift. Treasure it.
This dear friend is a very loving God, so stand on God's promises. The more you read the word of God and are with the Lord in prayer, you will soon find that our heavenly Father is a God of all comfort. He knows your heart, so go to him in prayer and read God's word.

Psalm 34:18 (NIV), “The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
When you go to the Lord in prayer and read the Bible, it will speak to your heart. It is why it is called the ‘Living Bible.' You will begin to grow hungry for the Lord, and it will become part of your daily life. You will want to seek Holiness. You will start to feel less lonely, and your loneliness will be replaced with the Lord's presence in your life. You will realize that He will never leave you!
Deuteronomy 31:6 (NIV), “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”
Matthew 28:20 (NLT), “Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
When I walked through a season of loneliness, I felt like I had no where else to turn, but to the Lord. Before this, I did not have a full understanding of who Jesus was. I would not want to go through it again; however, I am eternally grateful for the personal relationship I now have with Jesus Christ. When you seek Him, you will come out of feeling lonely, stronger, and better.
Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV), “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”
This became my life verse, and I knew the only way I was going to get through this season was to put my complete trust in Him and have faith. It gave me this peace over my life.
The Lord cares for you.
I always love to be reminded of this verse when I feel lonely or even discouraged. It reminds me of how much the Lord cares for me, and He cares for you!
Matthew 6:25-34 (NIV), “Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”

Here are a few other Bible verses you might find helpful in this season of loneliness.
Romans 12:12 (NIV), “Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.”
Have faith when you pray, read scripture and put your full trust in Him alone. He is there with you, fighting for you. He created you, knows you, and wants to bless you and help you. All He asks is for you to come to Him.
Isaiah 41:10 (NIV), “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
A psalm of David. Psalms 23 (NIV), “The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”
Psalm 121:1-2 (NIV), “I lift up my eyes to the mountains— where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.”

Keep looking up, friend, eyes on Jesus.
The Book of Ruth is a great book to read in the Bible when you feel alone.
The book of Ruth is found in the Old Testament. It is a short book with 4 Chapters.
I found this book very encouraging, and it gave me hope when I was feeling lonely.
If you are not familiar with Ruth's story, she lost her husband and father-in-law and was widowed. Ruth followed her mother-in-law, Naomi, to her homeland, which made Ruth a foreigner.
She told Naomi in Ruth 1:16 (NLT), “But Ruth replied, ‘Don’t ask me to leave you and turn back. Wherever you go, I will go; wherever you live, I will live. Your people will be my people, and your God will be my God.”
Throughout the story, Ruth remained obedient, loyal, kind, honest, faithful, hardworking, and the Lord took an ordinary girl who suffered great loss and used her to show His love. The story ends with a love story between her and Boaz. And then the Lord used her even further, and she became an ancestor to King David and Jesus.
This book always gave me hope and helped me when I was feeling lonely. It also reminded me of Romans 8:28 (NIV), “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”

Another story to read in the Bible when you feel alone is the woman at the well.
For me, this story is a great reminder that no matter what your past looks like, the Lord wants you to come to Him, have faith, and believe.
You will find the woman at the well in the Gospel of John 4:4-42 in the New Testament.
If you are unfamiliar with this story, as always, I encourage you to read it.
When I read this story, it reminds me of life sometimes. She went to the well in the middle of the day so she would not see anyone else because of the gossip about her. Like all of us, she just wanted peace, to be loved and feel valued. She was an outcast who did not feel valued by others and did not even value herself.
The woman was at the well in the middle of a hot day, to avoid the other women in the community, and she met Jesus. He revealed to her that He knew her and her past, but offered her grace and love.
John 4:13-14 (NIV), “Jesus answered, ‘Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
Jesus revealed Himself to her at the well. He took an outcast, a woman who did not even value herself, searching for love, and used her to be a testimony for Him!
He already knows all about you. It does not matter how messy your life is or what you have done; you are loved and valued. Go to Him with faith and believe.
I encourage you to keep reading the Bible and praying, search and seek Him, and your feelings of loneliness will be replaced with the love of Jesus Christ and His presence. It is hard for me to explain in words, but I am a living testimony of His love and faithfulness in my life.
The more you are in the Word of God and in prayer, the more you will replace your loneliness with the presence of God in your life.
I understand this is a hard season, but the Almighty God will fill that void that you are feeling. Begin today seeking Holiness and the Lord through prayer and scripture. You will see how your life will be transformed from loneliness into an unending love for Christ.
It is during these hard seasons that it seems that God does His best work in you. After you get through it, you will look back and see that He was with you all along.
Along with reading the Bible and praying, put on some worship songs. Doing all of this daily will change your life.
A song that helped me is When I Say Jesus- Life.Church Worship. This song has saved me so many days. It brings me peace, comfort, and it is a sweet reminder that all I need to do is call on Jesus, and He is there with me.
