God is our rock Bible Verses

When everything around you starts to shake, you need something to anchor to that will not move.

Life has a way of pulling the rug out from under you. You wake up, and you think you know how your day will look, but you suddenly get reminded that the only thing you know is who brings the day.

It might be a relationship that falls apart. A health diagnosis that changes everything. A job disappears overnight. A loved one who is struggling. Whatever it is, suddenly it is not just the day that has changed, but your week or maybe weeks ahead are about to change.

I am writing this from a hospital room with my Dad. My Dad, who is 91, is a very strong, independent man who still lives at home. collapsed and had a heart attack this past Sunday at church. He is still struggling.

Dad's heart Cath showed two blockages that are 90% and two blockages that are 80%. The cardiologist was unable to treat the blockages with stents at the time due to his kidney function. The recovery from the heart Cath was rough…the following day they went in to fix the blockages with stents and were only able to fix the 80% at that time.

In the meantime, he has become very weak physically and is struggling even to walk independently. He has also had two more small heart attacks. He has been transferred to another hospital to become stable with medicine and be moved to a rehabilitation facility.

The blessing in this is that our God is so good. He could have had a heart attack at home, alone, but God knew. He provided help for him, surrounded by friends in church.

To be fully transparent, not only do we have this, but my mother-in-law is in hospice with Kidney failure in our hometown. My Dad lives an hour from us.

At times, life feels as though everything around us is falling apart. So again, like my last post, Let Go And Let God: Bible Verses On Surrender, I am writing to help you and me 🙂

In times like this, it is not advice you want to hear. You need a foundation that cannot crack, shift, or crumble. Like a giant solid rock, these Bible verses are a framework for anchoring your faith in the one place nothing can shake.

Let's go to the Bible, our handbook for life, and see what the Lord says.

I pray that the Holy Spirit speaks to you as you read these ‘God is our Rock Bible verses'.

Sit with me and let's begin with God Is Our Rock Bible Verses that anchor faith.

Psalm 23:1-6

A Psalm of David.

Psalm 23:1-6 (ESV), The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

The Bible is full of stories of real people like you and me, and God was faithful then, and He is still faithful. He has not changed. He is a rock, a strong fortress. His right hand is reaching down to pick you up and give you strength.

When life shakes you to your core, how to apply God is our Rock Bible verses to your life and anchor your faith.

The goal is to have Bible verses wired into your heart so that when your world becomes uncertain, the first thing your heart reaches for is solid ground.

You chose the rock you stand on. Jesus Christ.

You plant your feet on the rock of Jesus and make a daily decision to build your life.

When your foundation is Jesus, even though everything around you is shaking, you are choosing to stand on the One that is unshakable.

How to apply God is our Rock Bible verses to your life and anchor your faith in prayer.

When you pray, you talk to the Lord. It is a personal relationship. You can also pray and anchor your prayer to Scripture. When you do this, you align your heart with what is already true. You can pray these God is our Rock Bible verses with confidence and personalize them. This will shift your thoughts from what is wrong to who is in charge.

1. Start with a declaration of who God is.

Lord, Psalm 31:3  says,  For you are my rock and my fortress; and for your name’s sake you lead me and guide me.

Start with a verse that reminds you who is in charge. You and I were not made to carry the burdens of this world on our own. I love going to Scripture, especially the Psalms, and praying to the Lord and then telling the Lord exactly about my situation. It is a personal prayer with the solid foundation of Biblical truth.

2. Name the specific area of your life that feels uncertain.

Tell the Lord exactly how you are feeling and what is going on. As you do this with Scripture from your heart, I promise you will begin to feel the peace of the Lord pour over you.

The Lord wants your heart. He wants your trust. At times, I walk around my house, praying Scripture aloud and talking to God. It is personal and private… just me and God. I encourage you to give it a try.

3. Then apply the verse directly to your situation.

Lord, because you are my rock and my fortress, I trust you. I need your help. Lord, lead me and guide me.

I encourage you to go to Psalms, read one of the chapters, and pray. Claim it and declare it over your situation. If you don't have a Bible, be sure to download the free YouVersion Bible, so you will always have God's Word available.

4. End your prayer with surrender, not demand.

This can be the hardest part. I always visualize the foot of the cross, and I lay my situation down at its foot. Mentally giving it to the Lord, and as I do, I say something like this: I trust you, Lord; I can not do this on my own. I need you. Help me. Guide me. Direct me. Holy Spirit, speak to me. Then when my fear or anxiety returns, I lay it at the cross again. This is when faith starts crushing that fear.

I promise you the more you do these steps, the easier it will get. After you do this and pray from your heart, you will feel a weight lifted off of you and a peace that surpasses all understanding. That, my friend, is from the Lord.

Faith is built verse by verse, prayer by prayer, and decision by decision over a lifetime of choosing to stand on the solid rock of Jesus.

How to build this solid foundation with Jesus Christ.

It is all about a daily life building a personal relationship with the One who knows you and still loves you.

Talk to God about the little things and the big things in your life. He wants you to seek Him and talk to Him about it all. Nothing is too small or too big for Him. When you wake up, pray, talk to Jesus. When you go about your day, pray, tell Him about it. He knows, but He wants to hear from you. Before you go to sleep, thank Him for the blessings and talk to Him about what is in your heart. Pray to him and talk to him as if Jesus were your best friend. You can be raw and honest because the Lord can handle it.

When you pray, do not forget to be still and listen for His voice. You won't hear an audible voice, but you will know when you hear it. It says in John 10:27 (NIV), My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.

You and I have a handbook for life, the Bible. It is an invaluable resource to guide us. When you look at the Bible as a collection of books within one big book, it might not seem so overwhelming or intimidating. There are Bible plans in the YouVersion Bible App that might be helpful for you.

Building a solid foundation with Jesus Christ is about a lifestyle.

It is being intentional with daily decisions to include Him in your day.

If you would like to build your life on a solid foundation with Jesus, you can invite Him into your heart today.

You can come to Him as you are, even if your life is messy.

A simple prayer from your heart.

Lord Jesus, I know I am a sinner, but I want to build my life with You on a solid foundation.  Please forgive me of my sins. I believe you came to earth, were born from a virgin, lived a blameless life, and were crucified on the cross. You shed your blood for me to wash away my sins. I believe you rose from the grave three days later, and when you ascended to heaven, you left the Holy Spirit to live in my heart and help guide me. Thank you for loving me and forgiving me. Help me, Lord, and guide me as I begin my new life with you. In Jesus' name, Amen.

If you just prayed this prayer and invited Jesus to be your Lord and Savior, you just made the most important decision of your life and one that will change your eternity!
