Are You Struggling? 15 Bible Verses About Doing Your Best
This post explores Bible verses about doing your best, designed to help you better understand who you are working for and why being patient with outcomes matters. If you are feeling discouraged in your efforts, these Bible verses offer encouragement and perspective.

Do you feel like you are on rocky ground? You keep doing the right thing and working hard, but it still does not feel good enough. Sometimes you wonder if all of your work is even worth it. You still feel like you come up short. You know you are not lazy, but good things never come. There seems to be no return on all of your hard work. On social media, others are having success, but you're not.
The only thing you know is that you are struggling and tired.
Together, let's look at Bible verses about doing your best and the importance of having your light shine in all that you do.

When I would finish something when I was little, and I felt discouraged, my mom would say to me, ‘Did you do your best? It does not matter what other people are doing, as long as you did your best, your best is good enough.'
Those words of hers I still carry with me today and am so thankful for her guidance. I do not believe she was even looking for an answer; she knew it was between God and me. When I became an adult, that carried over into all that I did and helped me greatly when I had my own business.
With that mindset, you learn to work the same way, no matter whether you are working in private or being watched and evaluated by human beings.
One thing I find helpful is to look at Bible verses about doing your best and going to God's word. The Bible is full of inspirational Bible verses and is a gift from God as a handbook and guide for life.
I encourage you to get into God's word each day, even if the only time you have is for one chapter or even one verse; it will change your life. The more you read, the more you will want to read and be hungry for God's word.
15 Bible verses about doing your best when you feel like quitting.
The love of God is so deep and so real. He has good plans for you. I encourage you to keep your chin up and your eyes on Jesus.
My prayer is that the following Bible verses about doing your best will give you a little encouragement when you are in difficult times and you feel like you are struggling and not being seen.
Personal pursuits can often feel overwhelming, but when you understand that God sees you and your faithfulness, your best efforts are good enough.
1. Colossians 3:23-24
Colossians 3:23-24 (NIV), Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.
This could be your job, your family, your housework, whatever the task may be, work like it is for the Lord and not people. When you work as if God is your boss, your audience, and your evaluator, the opinions of others lose their grip.
That change in perspective changes everything; it shifts from validation to faithfulness.
The Lord sees your heart. You begin to do your best because it honors God.
You may not see your return on this side of heaven, but when you know the One you are working for, no matter what your task is, it then becomes an act of worship. The shift changes your day, your outlook, and your life.
2. Proverbs 16:3

Proverbs 16:3 (NIV), Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.
Proverbs 16:3 (NLT), Commit your actions to the LORD, and your plans will succeed.
When I read Scripture, I like to look at different translations to better understand it. I thought I would share both the New International Version and the New Living Translation with you so you can gain better insight.
When you commit your job or task at hand to the Lord, your job is obedience and excellence in whatever you do throughout the day.
Then the next part of the verse is powerful: He will establish your plans, and your plans will succeed. This is clear. The outcome belongs to the Lord, not you!
The outcome may look different from what you thought it would; it may be delayed, and you may not have the entire picture or the plans the Lord has for you, but you do have His promises to give you hope and a future.
God's word says in Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV), For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
So, commit to working for God and watch Him handle the results. This takes the anxiety out of your job because you do your best, and the Lord will take care of the rest!
3. Ecclesiastes 9:10
Ecclesiastes 9:10 (NIV), Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might, for in the realm of the dead, where you are going, there is neither working nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom.
Whatever you do throughout the day, do it with all of your strength. You and I have one shot at this life.
When you do your best and are intentional about your days and your tasks throughout the day, you will live with no regrets. God honors the person who gives their best in the work in the seen and unseen, this is where faithfulness is proven.
Do not forget that you and I are to work for the Lord, not humans, and we are called to work with all our might, whatever our job is.
If it is worth doing, it is worth doing with everything you have. Anything less is a disservice to the gift of time and ability God gave you.
4. Galatians 6:9

Galatians 6:9 (NIV), Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
Remember, our job is to do our best, and the Lord is the one with the outcome. With this in mind, do not get tired of doing your best even when you do not see results in your timeline.
This reminds me of a farmer. Farmers work the land, plant the seed, and the seed is developing and growing underground, and the farmer cannot see the progress. But the farmer trusts that the harvest will come. They continue to do their best, taking care of the land, and waiting for their crop to arrive, where they will reap a harvest at the proper time if they do not give up.
So, do not become weary of doing good.
‘At the proper time,' and this does not say your time, or my time, it is ‘the proper time.' From my experience, my timeline is never the same as the Lord's timeline.
The key phrase here may be ‘if we do not give up.' How many times have you started something and then given up? You have no idea whether the breakthrough was right around the corner or would come the next day.
The promise is ‘you will reap a harvest'.
I encourage you to keep going, keep doing your best, and do not give up just because you do not see the harvest yet! Trust Him!
5. 1 Corinthians 15:58
1 Corinthians 15:58 (NIV), Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.
Every act of obedience, every moment of faithfulness, every effort you make in alignment with God's will carries eternal weight. It might not get recognized on earth, and you may not see it this side of heaven. It might not result in the outcome you expected. But it is never wasted.
6. Philippians 4:13
Philippians 4:13 (KNJV), I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
For years, I had a ring with this verse on it. I wore it as a reminder that, as long as I was in God's will and doing what I was called to do, I could lean into Him, and He would give me the strength to complete the task. When I got the ring, I was a single mom, and I knew that I could not do any of it alone. The Lord was my source of strength and I needed Him. I don't have that ring anymore, but now it's engraved in my heart. This season had an eternal impact on my life and was the start of my testimony.
7. Proverbs 21:5

Proverbs 21:5 (NLT), Good planning and hard work lead to prosperity, but hasty shortcuts lead to poverty.
Good planning and hard work lead to prosperity. Work as if you are working for the Lord, no cutting corners. Doing your best means doing the work others may skip. It is the preparation, consistent effort, and long-term thinking that create results that last.
Cutting corners might get you there faster, but it will not get you there better. And it usually falls apart under pressure. It is doing your best even when no one is watching.
8. 2 Timothy 2:15
2 Timothy 2:5 (NLT), Work hard so you can present yourself to God and receive his approval. Be a good worker, one who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly explains the word of truth.
When you do every task as if you were working for the Lord, you will be faithful. The Lord is not looking for perfect people. He is looking for the faithful. So, work with integrity and in a way that honors God, whether people are watching or not.
You know in your heart when you are doing your best. You never need to be ashamed, even if the results are not as hoped, when you work with integrity and do your best.
9. Matthew 5:16
Matthew 5:16 (NKJV), Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.
When you work for the Lord with integrity and humility, you are letting your light shine. You stand out from the crowd. If people ask, you can point them back to Jesus. He is your source. It is not about you, because you are working for the Lord.
10. Hebrews 6:10

Hebrews 6:10 (NIV), God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them.
You might be feeling overlooked, but God sees YOU. He sees everything you do, and it says, ‘He will not forget your work.' Keep doing your best, keep doing the work, because you are being seen by the One who really matters.
11. Romans 12:11
Romans 12:11 (NLT), Never be lazy, but work hard and serve the Lord enthusiastically.
Working for the Lord is a choice. When you keep your eyes on Jesus, your work and every task you do will be for the Lord, an audience of One. He is your source, and it is all about your relationship, not circumstances. So, work hard and serve the Lord enthusiastically.
12. Psalms 90:17
Psalms 90:17 (NIV), May the favor of the Lord our God rest on us; establish the work of our hands for us— yes, establish the work of our hands.
Psalms 90:17 (NLT), And may the Lord our God show us his approval and make our efforts successful. Yes, make our efforts successful!
As I said earlier, I always find it helpful to look at several translations. I thought it might be helpful to you to see both of these. This is a verse you can personalize and pray over your work. God can take your best effort and multiply it in ways you never thought possible.
13. 1 Peter 4:10
1 Peter 4:10 (NIV), Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.
Everyone has a gift from God. I would hear this, and for years, I believed that everyone had a gift, but me. You too have one! Use it for the Lord and to share it with others. A gift from the Lord is not meant to be kept for yourself; it is meant to be shared.
14. Proverbs 12:24
Proverbs 12:24 (NIV), Diligent hands will rule, but laziness ends in forced labor.
Proverbs 12:24 (NLT), Work hard and become a leader; be lazy and become a slave.
It does not say you have to be the smartest or the most talented. It says to work hard and be diligent. Be consistent. Show up and do the work, giving it your best each time. Over time, that consistency will be what makes the difference.
15. James 1:12

James 1:12 (NIV), Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.
Trials test your commitment. When you keep doing your best, even when it is hard, then you are being faithful. God honors faithfulness. Keep doing what is right and working for the Lord in all that you do. Even if it is hard. Remember that God sees it all.
There is good news, and you will get your full reward when you are faithful and continue to work for the Lord even under trial. You will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.
There is no greater love than God's love; the Holy Bible tells us about it. The Word of God tells us in John 3:16 (NLT), “For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.
Jesus died on the cross and shed His blood for you so you can be forgiven and have eternal life.
John 3:17 (NLT), God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him.
Wow!
Stop for just a minute and think what the Lord has done for YOU. The least we can do is give back with our faithfulness in all we do.
Each day when you go about your to-do lists, begin to work on each task as if you were working for the Lord and not just your own work. Work for the Glory of God.
Let your light shine for Him.

A prayer for you.
Heavenly Father, thank you for being Lord of my life and for loving me. I come to you today and ask for your help. Sometimes I feel like the tasks I do each day are daunting, and I am so tired of working hard and seeing no results. I want to be the light of the world for you. Help me to shift my eyes to you each day and work faithfully for you. I want to keep my eyes on you, Jesus, and only you in everything that I do. Help me lead with love in how I work and respond each day. I can not continue at this pace in my own strength, but I trust You alone that You will be right there with the Holy Spirit, and You will guide my steps. You are a God of hope and a God of peace, and my heart is so thankful for your love for me. I love you, Jesus, and I trust in God's strength that I can accomplish what you set before me to do each day. In Jesus name, Amen.
If you have never invited Jesus Christ into your life and want to today, here is a Salvation prayer for you.
Inviting Christ Jesus to be Lord of your life is indescribable. I know it is hard to understand right now, but you will feel so much love in your heart that you will be a new creation in Christ.
To invite Him into your life, you simply need to say a heartfelt prayer. Your life does not need to be perfect. Come just as you are.
Dear Lord, I know I am a sinner, but I want you to come live in my heart. I believe you lived on this earth and were crucified on the cross. You shed your blood for me and my sins. Please forgive me of my sins, as I want to live for you. I believe you conquered death and rose from the grave three days later. You ascended to heaven, where you are preparing a place for me to have eternal life. I want to be part of the Kingdom of God and work as though I am working for you here on earth. Help me and guide me each day as I trust you. Thank you for forgiving me and loving me. In Jesus name, Amen.
If you just prayed this prayer, this is the most important decision you have made in your lifetime.

Music is powerful.
Music is all throughout Scripture, and music is powerful. You can listen to a song, and it can take you down a road that makes you sad or want to dance. We listen to K-love radio in our home, which is positive and encouraging. If you have never heard of K-Love, I encourage you to listen to it and see how it changes your day. It never fails when I need some encouragement, the right song comes on that reminds me of God's love, and it can shift my focus to things above.
Here are a few songs that I thought you might enjoy that encourage you to keep doing your best.
