A Powerful Prayer For Mother Of A Drug Addict
This post is all about how a prayer for a mother of a drug addict can be powerful when you invite the Holy Spirit to begin your day with you.
You wake up, and your chest is heavy; you feel sick inside, and the reality of your child's addiction consumes your mind. You wonder where they are, whether they are okay and safe, or maybe you know exactly where they are but do not know what the next step is. I invite you to stick with me for a few minutes today.
Come and sit with me, and let's talk about how a powerful prayer for a mother of a drug addict will change your life.

Psalm 18:6 (NIV), “In my distress I called to the LORD; I cried to my God for help. From his temple he heard my voice; my cry came before him, into his ears.”
Hebrews 11:1 (NIV), “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.”
You and I were not built to carry these burdens, but there is hope, and His name is Jesus.
I pray you find value in this and that you will find something you can take with you daily that will change your life.

Do not underestimate the power of prayer in your daily routine.
Jeremiah 29:12-13 (NIV), “Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”
You wake up, and your nightmare is your reality. Before your feet hit the floor, I encourage you to invite the Holy Spirit into your day, shift your focus to the Lord, and begin each day with prayer.
A prayer for a mother of a drug addict you can make your own and personalize.
Heavenly Father, I need you today. Please, Lord Jesus, fill me up with your Spirit. Guide me, protect me and give me wisdom to know what to do and how to communicate with ________. I give you all of my worry and anxiety today. I surrender it all to you and lay it at the cross. I know I was not built to carry these burdens, so help me when I fall short of trusting You. I know you are bigger than any addiction and any problem I have today. Lord, I pray for Your healing power over _______. I pray for you to put people in his/her path that will point ________ to you Jesus. Please put a hedge of protection around ________ and to keep him/her from evil. Lord, I want more of you. Thank you for never leaving me and always being with me. I need you, and I need you to help our family. Please, Lord, wash over me with your presence and wrap your arms around me. I want to feel your presence and the peace You alone can give. Lord, I pray that ________knows how much he/she is loved by You and by our family. I pray that today _______ will have a sound mind and he/she will remember that help is a phone call away. Thank you for this day, help me to rejoice and be glad in it, and not to miss a single blessing you have for me. In the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.
When you begin your day with a prayer, you receive the peace of God and have your eyes focused on Jesus.
John 14:27 (NIV), “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
The Lord never promised life would be easy, but He did promise that He would be with you and me.
Hebrews 13:5 (NKJV), “For He Himself has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
Stand on God's word and let it guide you as you walk through each day.

This verse you can pray each day for yourself and family members.
Paul prays for believers, Colossians 1:9-12 (NIV), “For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives, so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light.”
You were not built to carry the burdens of this world. Surrender it all to the Lord and lay it at the foot of the cross.

I always visualize a cross, and one by one, I lay my burdens down. Once you lay it down, don't pick it back up, but if you do, give yourself grace and give it back to the Lord.
1 Peter 5:7 (NIV), “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”
Matthew 11:28 (NIV), “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
Remember that it is not your child who is the enemy; it is the drug or the addiction. Love the person and hate the behavior. God's love never fails, and neither does a mothers love.
1 Corinthians 13:8 (NIV), ‘Love never fails'.
John 13:34-35 (NIV), ““A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
The Lord says to pray continually.
This means pray when you wake up, throughout the day, and have Him be your last conversation before you go to sleep. When you have a sleepless night, what better time to talk to the Lord with no distractions. Visualize that cross, start praying, and surrender it all to Him and when you pray, do not forget to listen.
1 Thessalonians 5:17 (NIV), “pray continually”
Dear Lord, I am struggling today. Help me get through the next 15 minutes, and then the next. I lay my anxiety at the foot of the cross and give it back to you. Please, Lord, watch over my son/daughter, as I know they need you. Pour your unfailing love over ____________. Keep him/her from evil. May God be with him/her. In the name of Jesus Christ, I pray, Amen
1 Chronicles 16:11 (ESV), “Seek the LORD and his strength; seek his presence continually!”
Philippians 4:5-7 (NIV), “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Sometimes it can be overwhelming, and you do not even know what to pray. Give yourself grace and cry out to the Lord. Even when you don't have words, the Holy Spirit will speak for you.
I remember sitting in my car a few times and sobbing to the Lord about what we were walking through with the boys and addiction. It is hard. The only way to get through it is to give it to God.
Romans 8:26 (NIV), “In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.”
Romans 12:12 (NIV), “Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.”
The Serenity Prayer by Reinhold Niebuhr could be a prayer for a mother of a drug addict.
This is a common prayer that you can personalize.
God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference. Living one day at a time; enjoying one moment at a time; accepting hardships as the pathway to peace; taking, as He did, this sinful world as it is, not as I would have it; trusting that He will make all things right if I surrender to His Will; that I may be reasonably happy in this life and supremely happy with Him forever in the next. Amen.
Have Faith and keep praying.
It is important to take care of yourself and your mental health. Drugs are stealing time you can not get back, so please lay it at the cross and keep looking up with your eyes on Jesus.

Have your firm foundation be set on the Lord Jesus Christ, who is unshakable, and get anchored in the word of God and prayer.
Remember that your child's rock bottom is not your rock bottom. Over and over we would think, ‘How could it get worse?' and then, finally, it was their rock bottom we were waiting for.
For one son, he was sent to prison, and there he was able to get clean. Drug addiction was in his life from the time he was 15 years old until he was in his mid 30's. Over half of that time, he had spent in prison for drug-related arrests. Every time he was in prison, he would excel, but as soon as he got out, he would fall right back into the same crowd and into the drug scene. The last time he spent time in prison was different. He had a family, but something had changed inside of him. We believe it was the power of prayer. For years, he was prayed for.
This is when we also learned about Oxford houses in the United States. If you do not have knowledge about them, I encourage you to do your research. Oxford houses have been a huge blessing from God to our boys and us. They will not cost you, the parent, anything! The residents have to be clean, get a job, and work to pay their way.
For our other son, again, his rock bottom was much more than we thought. He decided he wanted to be clean and reached out. Immediately, my husband got on the phone and found a place several states away to take him to, free of charge. My husband drove him there; upon arrival, our son did not want to go. My husband made him call the house, and they talked him into coming. Because he still had drugs in his system, he had to be hospitalized for a safe detox. After his detox, he also went to a residential recovery program and later went to an Oxford house.
We prayed and prayed for the boys for the chains of addiction to be broken. My husband would say, as long as they have a heartbeat, we will pray.
What is the next step once sober?

I encourage you to have a plan. When that day comes, it will be a time when you least expect it. So, make the most of each day because you never know what the day will bring, but you do know who brings the day.
Psalm 118:24 (ESV), “This is the day that the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.”
As I mentioned earlier, the Oxford house was a huge blessing for us and something we were unaware of for years. They are located all across the United States.
However, there are many different kinds of support groups, faith-based addiction treatment programs, evidence-based therapies, you could hire a board certified professional Christian life coach, or go to a treatment center, just to name a few.
There are options available, as always, do your research to see what fits best for you and your loved one.
Sobriety has not been perfect for either of the boys, but addiction recovery is possible. Because of prayer and Jesus, our boys were able to break the chains of addiction. They are both living productive lives and contributing to society.
If you do not know who Jesus is. He will change your life.
The Lord has changed my life; hence why I built this website to share my testimony and point people to Jesus.
The Lord has broken the chains of addiction, for not just one of our boys, but both, and the mother of three of our grandkids.
The reality is, there is hope, and His name is Jesus. True freedom is found in Christ.
If you would like to invite Jesus Christ into your life, He has already paid the price for you. All you have to do is believe and put your complete trust in Him alone, then ask Him into your heart with a simple prayer.
Dear Lord, I know I am a sinner, and I come to you as I am. Please forgive me of my sins. I believe you came to earth and were born of a virgin. You lived a blameless life and were crucified on the cross, and your blood was shed for me. You paid the price for me. I put my complete trust in You alone. I believe You rose from the grave three days later and ascended to heaven, where You are preparing a place so I can have eternal life. Thank you for loving me. Thank you for being my Lord and Savior. In Jesus name, Amen

I encourage you to sing to the Lord in worship.
When you worship to the Lord and sing out to Him you will notice a shift in your mindset off of your circumstances and onto a Holy God. Lay your burdens down and sing out to Him!
