bible verses about fellowship with friends

What kind of friends do you find yourself spending time with? Can you be real and transparent with them? Do they make you a better person and point you back to Jesus? Or do they make you feel comfortable, and is the conversation always light and fluffy?

When I look at my life, the friends who made the difference were, and still are, the ones I can be real and honest with. Share my struggles and all parts of my life. The friends who walk with me through storms, and remind me of God’s faithfulness, are the ones who have impacted my life.

It is powerful to walk with others who share your faith and pour truth over you, rather than a friend of the world. Friendships with followers of Christ make you better because they challenge you, and you know it comes from their heart.

When the Bible talks about fellowship, it means believers walking together in faith, sharpening each other, bearing burdens, and pointing one another to Christ. God designed us for community.

God’s word, the Holy Bible, is clear about the kind of friend you should have and the importance of fellowship. When you walk in genuine fellowship, watch how God uses those relationships to shape you into who He created you to be. Good friendships, wise friends, trustworthy friends, and true friendships will reflect the love of God, and you will grow spiritually.

Together, let’s look at some powerful Bible verses about fellowship with friends.

Our perfect example of fellowship with friends is Jesus and His disciples.

John 15:15

John 15:15 (NIV): I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.

Jesus walked with his disciples, taught them, shared meals and life with them, and they were His friends. Everything Jesus did in His life here on earth was an example for us. The importance of fellowship is no different.

Another question I always ask myself is: What did I learn…So I ask, what did you learn from these Bible verses about fellowship with friends?

I invite you to share what you learned in the comments below.

What I learned is that God designed us for fellowship with friends. It is a way in which we can experience Him and grow in faith. Community with believers in Christ is one way that God strengthens, corrects, and encourages us. The Lord uses other believers to keep us on course and remind us of His truth when we begin to drift. I also learned that fellowship is not just about accountability, but about carrying each other’s burdens.

It is about walking with each other through the good and the bad, and helping one another. I am forever grateful to my best friends for always pointing me to Jesus and walking with me through some very difficult situations. A friend’s sweetness can change everything, and God’s faithfulness never changes.

It is also important to be connected to the entire body of believers, not just your close friends. It means working together with the body of Christ to reflect God’s love to the world and point others to Jesus.

You might be asking yourself, “How can I strengthen my Christian friendships in my daily life?”

You want to share life, encourage each other, and help one another. Sometimes this takes time, energy, and sacrifice. Other times, it can be a simple encouraging text.

1. Practical support.

This might mean bringing someone a meal, helping with their children or childcare, or, if possible, offering financial support.

2. Emotional presence.

This is being with them and being available to listen. Remember that God gave us two ears and one mouth. It is not about giving them all the answers. Often, the best thing is to let someone talk and get it out. Whatever the situation, letting them talk will make it clearer for them. It is being there for support and pointing them back to Jesus.

3. Spiritual encouragement.

After you sit with them and allow them to talk, pray with them. Remind them of God’s promises and His faithfulness. Maybe remind them of a time when God showed up in their past.

I’ve experienced all of these things through the fellowship of friends. I am forever grateful. The receiver never forgets the things that might seem so small to you. You have no idea how much impact it can have on someone.

If you struggle to find Christian friends or feel isolated in your faith, I encourage you to get involved in a church. When you do, make it a priority and attend every weekend. Get involved and serve; join a life group, prayer group, or any way you can get to know other believers.

If you have never accepted Jesus Christ into your heart and made Him your personal Lord and Savior, I invite you today.

A personal relationship with the Creator, Jesus Christ, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit is hard to explain until you experience it. But because of my personal relationship with Jesus, it has changed me. It is incredible. I want everyone to know who Jesus is and that He is real. The love you feel will fill your heart, and you will stop searching for something to fill the void you feel today.

When you pray, it is simply talking to God, like you do with your best friend. He wants you to come as you are. Your life can be messy. It is okay because He will transform you from the inside out. He is waiting for you.

A prayer from your heart.

Heavenly Father, I know I am a sinner, and I come to you as I am. I invite you into my heart to be my personal Savior. I believe you came to earth, were born of a virgin, and lived a blameless life. You were crucified on the cross to make a way for me to have eternal life with You. Three days later, you rose from the grave and conquered death. I believe when you ascended to heaven, you left the Holy Spirit to help guide me and live with me. Forgive me of my sins. Thank you for loving me and thank you for shedding your blood on the cross for me. In Jesus name, Amen.

You are not alone on this journey of faith.
